Hi, I’m Lisa Listerman, LICSW

You deserve therapy that combines deep understanding with practical tools for real change. Whether you're a high-achiever exhausted by anxiety or a parent watching your child struggle with worry, you need more than just support–you need strategies that actually work in your daily life.

Work with Me

My Approach

I'm an active therapist who combines support with practical strategies you can use right away. I like to use evidence-based approaches (more on that below) in combination with my many years of experience (both in the therapy room and the real world).

I love finding the right metaphor or framework that makes everything click for someone. Whether you're a musician who thinks in rhythms, an athlete who gets sports analogies, or an engineer who needs logical frameworks, I adapt my approach to how you think and learn best.

My goal? To help you change your relationship with anxiety so it stops running your life.

Specialized Training in Evidence-Based Treatment

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure & Response Prevention for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Gold-standard treatments for anxiety, including specialized training in Rumination-Focused ERP for when your mind won't stop spinning.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

When anxiety is rooted in past experiences or trauma, EMDR helps your brain reprocess these memories so they stop controlling your present reactions. I use this both as standalone treatment and integrated into ongoing therapy.

  • Understanding your nervous system's stress responses helps you gradually expand your ability to handle difficult emotions and situations. This is especially helpful if you feel physically overwhelmed by anxiety–racing heart, tight chest, or that shut-down feeling.

    • Trained in SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions)

    • Trained in Family Well-being Approach. If your older adolescent/young adult child refuses treatment, there are still things you can learn to restore your own well-being and promote recovery.

    • Years of experience helping parents support children and adolescents without enabling anxiety

For parents seeking support

Help your child by helping you.

One of my passions is helping parents of anxious children. Through parent consultation, I teach you how to respond to anxiety in ways that build your child's confidence and independence.

This work is incredibly rewarding because when parents change their responses, children's anxiety often decreases significantly and family members' lives improve.es

My Professional Background

Prior to starting my private practice, for nearly a decade, I worked in the college counseling center at Berklee College of Music/Boston Conservatory, where I helped high-achieving students navigate anxiety, perfectionism, and the pressure to succeed in the competitive world of music and dance. I loved watching students grow and change over their time in college, discovering they were capable of so much more than anxiety had led them to believe.

In addition, I have clinical experiences in:

  • Inpatient and residential settings

  • Child & Adolescent Programs

  • Crisis Intervention

  • Outpatient Mental Health

Now in private practice, I get to do what I love most: help people understand what makes them tick and find creative ways to help them change patterns that aren't working anymore.
